Mote Marine – Marine Science, Marine Rescue Service, Hands on Aquarium, Like to have local contributing Volunteers working on a regular basis. Great chance to see dolphins, turtles, and manatees up close.

Ringling Museum – Display of Rubens Tapestries and Fine Arts, Circus Museum with large display of circus life of yesteryear created by hand by Howard Tibbals. NOT TO BE MISSED.

Myakka State Park-For family outings exploring the estuaries and wildlife (alligators) of the Peace River. Go by tour or Canoe on your own. Cabins and Camping available.

Selby Gardens in the heart of downtown. Lovely botanical gardens and gardeners paradise exhibit.

Sarasota Jungle Gardens almost downtown. Flamingos, Florida alligators, and bird shows–and with an “old timey Florida tourist trap” gift shop! Fun for all.

G WIZ for the kids in the family, and the adults who are kids too.

Then there is fishing by hour, 1/2 day , or Day trips from Marina Jack’s. Night time shark fishing adventures, too. Landlubbers who are allergic to fish and boats can take a stroll around Marina Jack’s parks and gaze at some of Sarasota’s most interesting and controversial art.

The glorious beaches of Siesta Key and Lido Key with pure white sand and sparkling turquoise Gulf of Mexico waters.

Then there is the World Class Opera, World Class Ballet, World Class Symphony, and a multitude of outstanding theatre performances in reconstructed buildings(theaters) from the late 17th and 18th centuries. Not to be missed is the Artist Series of Sarasota with international performers of all varieties. Bonus points awarded to visitors who know the local residents nickname for the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall is “the PURPLE COW”.
This To Do list should keep you busy for a week or two vacationing in Sarasota. If you don’t feel like you will have enough time to do it all, just plan to spend forever here and not have to hurry through. What’s not to love!!! [Wannabe residents just give me a call... 941-993-3635]
Local residents and retired Senior Citizens love contributing their volunteer time and PART TIME JOB HOURS to many of these organizations as well.
